Wheel materials - Overview
Here we give you an overview of the many different wheel materials in our product range.
Whether rubber, polyamide, polyurethane, cast iron, steel or a wide variety of heat-resistant wheels, we have the right tire or wheel material for you.
For transportation, it is extremely important to choose the right wheel material for the floor or surfaces on which the vehicle is to be transported.
We therefore strongly recommend that you consult our floor and surface overview table, which you can open by clicking on the yellow button below.
Overview on the Wheel-Materials
Rubber, various types

Standard solid rubber

Thermoplastic rubber
Our thermoplastic rubber wheels are non-marking, which means they leave no (visible) marks or stripes and ensure quiet running with comparatively low rolling and steering resistance. The tread is inseparably bonded to the rim. However, these treads are slightly oily and can therefore lead to contact discoloration on sensitive surfaces under unfavourable circumstances.

Semi-elastic solid rubber
The semi-elastic solid rubber wheels offer greater ride comfort and a better load capacity than standard solid rubber wheels. They are gentler on the ground and dampen vibrations. This is made possible by the special construction of the tire, which has a hard tire base and an elastic tread. As a result, these wheels achieve a lower starting and rolling resistance.

Elastic solid rubber
Elastic solid rubber wheels are manufactured with a special rubber compound that contains a high proportion of natural rubber. The rubber is inseparably bonded to the rim (aluminum rim, cast core or steel core). These wheels have particularly comfortable driving and rolling characteristics with very low starting and rolling resistance. Thanks to their high elasticity, these wheels can easily overcome light obstacles and are also very suitable for uneven surfaces.

Super elastic solid rubber
Super-elastic solid rubber wheels are equipped with multi-component tires that have been specially developed for high loads. The tire base consists of a particularly resistant rubber compound with steel wire reinforcement, which ensures a secure fit on the rim, even under heavy loads. A highly elastic intermediate cushion ensures that the tire temperature remains low even at high loads and speeds. The thick, abrasion-resistant tread protects the tire from external damage.
Polyurethane, Vulkollan®, various types and hardnesses

Thermoplastic, injection-molded polyurethane

molded polyurethane
Aluminum rims, cast cores or steel cores with cast polyurethane in different wheels for various applications in the heavy-duty sector. The coating is inseparably bonded to the rim. In addition to the hard wheels for transportation on smooth floors, we also offer wheels with a soft tread especially for transportation on uneven floors.
The soft version in particular offers excellent vibration damping and a high level of ride comfort thanks to its good elastic properties.

Elastic polyurethane, soft
The elastic soft PU wheels offer excellent vibration damping and a high level of ride comfort thanks to their good elastic properties.

Vulkollan®
However, Vulkollan® also has special mechanical properties and is therefore used, among other things, for drive wheels in industrial trucks (electrically powered pallet trucks) and in the field of conveyor technology for conveyor rollers. Vulkollan® has the property of discoloring strongly under UV radiation. This is a distinctive externally recognizable quality feature and can therefore be easily distinguished visually from polyurethane wheels.
Polyamide, various types and hardnesses

Thermoplastic, injection-molded polyamide

Cast polyamide, solid material
Polyamide wheels turned from solid PA6 G material. Cast polyamide is a cast, thermoplastic material that is characterized by its high abrasion resistance, hygienic properties and resistance to many aggressive substances (see "Chemical resistance" in the "Technology" section). It also offers very low starting and rolling resistance. Compared to injection-molded polyamide, cast polyamide has a significantly higher load-bearing capacity and better temperature resistance. However, when using cast polyamide on pressure-sensitive floors, the relatively high surface pressure should be taken into account.

Heat-resistant polyamide
Injected wheels made from high-quality polyamide 6 HD + glass and natural fibers -40°C +150°C
The wheels of the KLG-HI series are made of high-quality polyamide and filled with glass fibers and additional natural fibers. They are formed using a new vacuum and material drying process to ensure high resistance at temperatures between -40°C and +150°C.
Cast iron and steel

Casting
Cast wheels made of special gray cast iron, with plain bearing bore or deep groove ball bearing, rough cast tread, not overturned, surface not treated. These wheels are designed for rough use and should never be used on sensitive floors. They are extremely robust and wear-resistant and can also be used as plain bearing wheels at high temperatures from -100°C to +600°C. They are therefore often used for applications such as industrial ovens. With our heat-resistant wheels, we offer special cast wheels that are appropriately turned and painted so that they can also be used on "normal" floors.
We also offer cast flanged wheels made of special gray cast iron, which are specially designed for the movement of rail vehicles and overhead conveyor systems. We offer an enormous variety and large selection of high-quality and robust designs. The flange and the running surface are cleanly turned and inclined at 3°, the surface is lightly primed or painted, but does not offer any permanent corrosion protection.

Steel, solid material
We also offer flanged wheels, door rollers and rope rollers made from the same material. Further information can be found in the Wheels & Castors section in the overview or alternatively via the configurator.
Heat-resistant wheel materials

Composite material
This range of composite wheels has replaced the old "phenolic" wheels and is made from a special compound combined with special fibers and formed in an innovative high pressure and extreme temperature process, resulting in the highest quality wheels in their application range. These composite wheels have been specifically designed and manufactured to meet the extremely varied conditions they are exposed to in the world of temperatures and the bakery/food industry and are designed to withstand a temperature range of -40°C to +300°C. They are characterized by good resistance to water, most solvents, oils, acids and chemicals, have excellent fire and smoke properties and are certified for use in the bakery and food industry as well as for all oven applications requiring a temperature of up to +300°C peak.
These wheels are also excellent for use in freezers and at temperatures down to -40°C and guarantee high resistance to thermal shocks caused by rapid temperature increases or decreases. The new composite material allows these wheels to withstand sudden changes in temperature and survive jumps of 340°C in less than 60 seconds, either from cold to hot or vice versa.
They do not leave marks on the floor when the freewheel is secured, but may leave abrasion marks when used on abrasive floors; in addition, chipping or cracking may occur on the surface of the wheels if they are used on very uneven floors or if they hit hard against sharp obstacles; in this case, we recommend that you contact us so that we can help you find the perfect wheel for your needs.
With the exclusive PHG-XI series, we even have a wheel series in our range that guarantees a temperature resistance of up to +400°C and is not made of aluminum or cast iron, which has the great advantage of protecting the floor and drastically reducing noise compared to metal wheels.
