Swivel castors from Schwalb Rollen
Reliable mobility for a wide range of applications
Swivel castors are indispensable components that enable precise control and safe movement of machines, trolleys or devices. They consist of a swivel housing and a wheel that can turn in all directions to flexibly adapt the desired direction of movement of the transport device. As the perfect complement to fixed castors, swivel castors offer high maneuverability and are used in a wide variety of areas, from industry and trade to private applications.
Schwalb Rollen offers an extensive selection of swivel castors that are specially adapted to different requirements. With a variety of materials, sizes and load capacities, our products meet even the highest demands. If a suitable solution cannot be found in our standard range, we will be happy to develop a customized castor for your needs.
Swivel castors enable the safe and precise transportation of machines, trolleys, equipment and much more. Swivel castors consist of a swivel housing and a wheel. Due to their vertical movement in the swivel housing, they are able to change the direction of the transport device. They are therefore the perfect complement to fixed castors.
As a manufacturer of swivel castors, we offer you a comprehensive selection of different combinations of swivel housings and wheels. A variety of different materials, sizes and load capacities leave nothing to be desired. Regardless of whether small or large objects are involved, Schwalb castors has the right castor for every requirement.

Functions & features of our swivel castors
Load capacity
The load capacity of swivel castors depends on the size and model of the castor. Some of our castors can carry loads of up to 20,000 kg (20 tons).
It is important to know the weight of the load that will be placed on the castors in order to choose the correct load capacity. We will be happy to help you determine the correct load capacity per castor.
Rule of thumb for a transport device with four wheels or castors:
There is a general rule of thumb for calculating the required load capacity per castor for transport equipment with 4 wheels or castors: you should always divide the total load by 3, as uneven floors or uneven load distribution, for example, mean that not all 4 wheels or castors always carry the load equally.
All our specified load capacities apply to a maximum speed of 4 km/h on smooth, even and clean floors at a temperature of approx. 20°C. However, at increasingly higher speeds and/or ambient temperatures, the load capacity is significantly reduced.
The different requirements for the maneuverability of a transport device result in different options for the castor arrangement. In our technical guide"Roller arrangement", you will find an overview of the most common arrangements with their advantages and disadvantages as well as their properties when cornering and driving straight ahead.

Wheel materials to match the floor
We offer an extensive selection of materials for our swivel castors. Depending on the intended use and your requirements, we manufacture them from different materials.
The choice of the right material depends on several factors, such as the load capacity, the surface and the environment.
Stainless steel castors are a good choice for use in damp or wet environments due to their corrosion resistance and hygienic properties, while rubber or polyurethane castors offer good shock absorption and are suitable for use on sensitive floors .
Our separate table lists the different materials for castors and describes their suitability on different surfaces.
Roll types
In addition to the classic swivel castor, we also offer other types of castors. These are swivel castors with brakes, double swivel castors or double swivel castors with brakes. There are also sprung swivel castors.
With sprung swivel castors, sensitive loads can be transported safely and undamaged. The special suspension ensures that uneven floors, thresholds and edges are evened out. Typical areas of application for sprung castors can be found in the catering industry, in the IT/electronics sector, in laboratories and in the glass processing industry.

Accessories
For example, a suitable foot guard is available for a large number of our castors. Conventional safety measures do not protect the foot sufficiently and can lead to painful injuries. With Schwalb foot protection, the foot remains protected, whether in street shoes or safety shoes.
Mounting options
Our swivel castors are available as standard with a screw-on plate, back hole or threaded pin as well as an expander attachment for round and square tubes. We also manufacture special fixings such as side plates for some castors, please ask specifically if required.
Locking devices, various types
Our swivel castors are available with various brakes/locking devices. The classic wheel lock only locks the wheel and not the swivel head. A total locking device locks both the wheel and the swivel head. The swivel castor can also be locked with a directional locking device. With a total lock or the directional lock, a swivel castor becomes a fixed castor for a short time.
Fixed castors with wheel brakes are also available as special designs.

Areas of application
What factors need to be taken into account?
Depending on the application and selection of the right castor, several factors should be taken into account, such as
- Load capacity: The castor should be suitable for the weight of the machine or appliance.
- Surface: The surface on which the castor is used influences the choice of material.
- Environment: If the castor is used in a damp or wet environment, a stainless material should be selected.
- Shock absorption: If good shock absorption is required, materials such as rubber or polyurethane and the use of sprung castors should be considered.
Craft and trade
In trade, commerce or the service sector, they are often used in workshops or warehouses, e.g. for event technology, tool trolleys, mobile scaffolding and retail roller containers. Last but not least, castors can also be found in the medical sector, e.g. hospitals.
Industry
In industry, rollers are usually subject to special requirements. This applies not only to external influences such as heat, cold or contact with chemical substances. The load-bearing capacity is often an important point, especially for castors for larger machines or transport equipment.

Advantages of swivel castors
Reliable mobility
Swivel castors allow objects to be moved quickly and precisely in a specific direction, providing reliable mobility. Thanks to this flexibility, objects can be easily moved to the desired location.
Increased productivity
Castors increase productivity by facilitating the movement of an object. These castors make it possible to move heavy loads easily and quickly, reducing the effort time and the number of workers needed for transportation. This increases efficiency and boosts productivity.
